Tomorrow is the first day of the advent season and we’ve stumbled across this fantastic calendar available here.
Disclaimer: The sprouts are actually chocolate (even we’re not that cruel!)
As London experiences chills of minus four, there is nothing better than coming home to a home-cooked bowl of soup. This week’s box certainly provides all you’ll need for a variety of different soups..
This tried and tested beef, carrot and cabbage soup is an absolute winter winner. Stewing beef works just as well as mince, with the flavours slowly developing over 3-4 hours of slow-cooking, thickened with a whole can or two of tomato puree, lifted by the caraway and fennel seeds, and intensified by the red wine. It makes a little meat go a looong way without compromising on taste.
And for those of you with the beetroot substitute who may be wondering what to give grandma for Christmas, why not make this spiced beetroot and orange chutney? Chutney is renowned for tasting better a few weeks after you’ve made it, so get chutney-ing this weekend in time for the Christmas gift giving!
